Top Training Priorities for 2003
Published in the February 2003 edition of Training
Magazine.
Senior training professionals were surveyed by Training
Magazine and asked to name and describe up to three of their top
training priorities of 2003. The
top training priorities identified by the survey group were:

Softskills
training (28%) Includes
leadership, management and supervisory skills training, interpersonal
skills, team-building, customer service, diversity and sexual
harassment.

Technical
training (16%) Includes
operator training, technical skills training and IT.

Enhancing
the quality of training (11%)
Includes improving instructional systems design and instructor
skills, developing better curricula and performing more effective
needs analysis.

Online
learning (8.4%) Includes
off-the-shelf on-line courses, custom development of courses and
Learning Management Systems.
-
Business
skills (7.7%) Includes
topics such as finance and marketing, as well as lean manufacturing
and quality.
-
Business
alignment, business impact and ROI
(7.5%) Includes
aligning training with business strategy, culture and change, business
impact of training, return on investment and measurement and
evaluation of training.

Sales
training (7.1%) Includes
product training, new product training and sales process skills.
-
Safety
and compliance training (7%)
Includes safety, regulatory, compliance and security training.
-
Performance
Management (4.1%) Includes
interventions in the work area, of which training may be a part of the
intervention.

HR
Related training (3.8%) Includes
orientation, employee development, succession planning, career
planning and competency management.
