Increasing
focus and demand for world-class products requires that design specifications,
including true functional limits of acceptable part geometry as defined on
product engineering drawings, must be uniformly interpreted and understood.
This overview provides understanding of the purpose and basic principles of
geometric tolerancing and how it complements conventional tolerancing.
Techniques
are described according to their definition in the ASME Y14.5M-1994 standards
and by use of examples in various drafting standards. Some topics include:
Terminology Symbols, Modifiers, Rules, Flatness, Straightness, Circularity,
Cylindricity, Datums, Orientation Controls, Perpendicularity, Angularity,
Parallelism, Tolerance of Position (TOP) Controls, Concentricity and Symmetry
Controls, Runout Controls, Profile Controls.
