Electrical Maintenance Training - Electrical & Electronic

Industrial Electrical Maintenance Training Curriculum 

This course is designed to meet the training needs of plant maintenance personnel engaged in the day-to-day troubleshooting and fault correction of industrial electrical equipment.  It is appropriate for electrical maintenance personnel in need of a review of electrical basics and an introduction to more complicated industrial controls and test equipment.  It is also suited for mechanical maintenance personnel that take part in plant electrical maintenance activities.  The course can be customized to include examples of specific components, test equipment, and documentation found at the plant.

 

Electrical & Electronic Fundamentals

Course Length: 2 days (16 hours)

Instructional Setting: Classroom

Basic Electrical Test Equipment

Course Length: 1/2 day  (4 hours)

Instructional Setting: Classroom and equipment demonstrations

  • Types of test equipment

  • Test equipment safety

  • Calibration standards

  • Voltage testers & voltmeters

  • Resistance meters (Ohmmeters)

  • Megohmmeter (Megger)

  • Current meters (Ammeters)

  • Digital multimeters

  • Clamp-on ammeters

 

Introduction to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)

Course Length: 1 day  (8 hours)

Instructional Setting: Classroom and plant floor

Topical Outline:  

  • PLC fundamental concepts

  • PLC system controller (processor)

  • PLC chassis and I/O module arrangements

  • Power supplies

  • Typical input and output control devices

  • AC and DC input modules

  • AC and DC output modules

  • Analog output modules

  • Adjustable speed drive controllers

  • PLC communications

  • Operator interface devices

Basic Electrical Troubleshooting

Course Length: 1/2 day  (4 hours)

Instructional Setting: Classroom and plant floor

Topical Outline:  

  • Fault analysis and correction

  • Logical troubleshooting techniques

  • Using test equipment for troubleshooting

  • Fault isolation

  • Power supply checks

  • Motor and controller checks

  • Signal flow path(s)

  • Controller input device functionality

  • Digital input module functionality

  • Output devices and verifications

  • Control voltage checks
