Fundamentals for New Supervisors
The goal of this half-day program is to provide
participants with an understanding of managerial competencies necessary for
success as a new supervisor. The
course will focus on the new behaviors required for individuals making the
transition from peer to supervisor as well as the skills necessary for
administrative competence in the areas of planning, prioritizing, informing,
communicating change and building an effective working environment.
At the completion of this course, participants will be able
to:

Explain the
actions new supervisors can take to transition from a peer to a supervisor

Explain the
six actions leaders can take to create effective relationship with direct
reports

Describe
what actions supervisors can take to effectively communicate with direct
reports
-
Describe
what actions supervisors can take in order to effectively communicate with
immediate supervisors and upper management.

Identify
priorities as a supervisor and accomplish individual work assignments
This course will include the video, “Would I Follow
Me?” which contrasts ineffective and effective supervisory behaviors.
Participants will learn tips for effective leadership behaviors and the
impact those behaviors have in getting the new supervisor off to a successful
start. The course will also include
group exercises and discussions, which will enable the participants to apply
concepts to situations they encounter as a new supervisor.
